These notes are from some teaching on faith by Charles Capps that I have gleaned from YouTube. I’ve also added some of my thoughts. Something I believe the Church has lost today is understanding the power of words. Because of this we have also lost our authority when confronting problems in life. Mountains are not being removed because we don’t believe the way we should. The bible shows us that words are powerful; they are a living substance. When you realise this truth your words will be few, but when you do speak them they will mean something to you. There is no life in some people’s words, because there is no faith there. It’s faith that causes the word to live. God released faith in ‘His’ words and His words are alive to Him. Unless you release some faith in His words when you speak them, then it’s a dead book as far as you are concerned, if you don’t believe what God said concerning you.The Prophet Hosea said: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:” Hosea 4:6
The Power of Words: Part One
I have felt lately to revisit the whole area of our words, and how they influence our lives, both for good and bad. I would not consider myself to be a ‘name it and claim it, type of guy,’ but I have seen how my tongue influences my life. It can lead me into paths of righteousness and prosperity or bring me lots of problems. I do now try and speak out what I want to happen in my life, but don’t major on that all the time, for God has promised that if I seek first His Kingdom all the other ‘things’ will be added unto me. I still have to ask for my daily bread, but I don’t stress over it. I realise that the daily confession of my faith releases His life inside of me. What more could you want than to be controlled by His life?
What is a real Christian?
When a famous evangelist spoke to his very sick grandfather about the Lord on his death bed, the Grandfather’s reply was. “Don’t worry about me son, I’m a Scotch Presbyterian.” It was true, for he was born in Scotland and went to the Presbyterian Church and then came over to Argentina. The trouble was he loved his ‘Scotch’ more than he loved his ‘Presbyterian’ and died that same day from liver failure believing the popular myth about what makes a person a Christian. Here are some of the myths that people believe makes them a Christian.
The Fellowship of His Sufferings
If you look at the rest of Paul's teachings on our life in Christ, you will see that there is something else that he is trying to get us to understand. Yes, there will be persecutions and suffering in the Christian life, but I think there’s more that we need to understand in verses like Romans 8:17. It’s understanding how we were crucified with Him on the cross and identifying with His sufferings This is the key to a victorious life. You will always feel unworthy if you don’t understand this truth.
“And since we are his children, we will share his treasures—for all God gives to his Son Jesus is now ours too. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.” Romans 8:17 living
The Coming Elijah
Both the Old and the New Testaments speak of a coming Elijah. Who is this man? Jesus says that John the Baptist was the Elijah that came before His ministry, but hinted that there would be another one before His 2nd Coming. “And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected? But I tell you, Elijah has come, and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.” Mark 9:11-13
