In the Beginning

“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, And all their host by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as in a wineskin; He puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear and worship the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” Psalm 33:6-9

We were asked at our Home Group the other night if there was any place in the Bible that we would love to go back to, and see it all with our own eyes and hear it with our own ears. It was funny that everyone in the group had a different story in the bible that appealed to them, and various reasons as to why they wanted to go back there.

When I was asked the question, I immediately thought of wanting to be at the beginning of creation when God made the heavens and the earth. I felt that it would be an awesome thing to see.

I remember reading in the Narnia book called the ‘Magician’s Nephew’ when the children went back in time to experience the creating of Narnia. It was very dark and they heard someone singing a beautiful song and then saw Aslan the Lion walking up and down singing, and as he did there was light and things came into being. As I read these words, it fired up my imagination, thrilling my heart. This was all a type of how Jesus first created this world and I do think the Lord was also singing when He created our world.

In proverbs it says that wisdom was there in the beginning rejoicing in God’s creation.

“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water; before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, before he made the world or its fields or any of the dust of the earth. I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.” Proverbs 8:22-31

It tells us in Psalm 33 that the worlds were made by the breath of His mouth. It was with words that Jesus spoke things into being. Amazingly the sun moon and all the stars came out of the mouth of Jesus. This is mind boggling.

Another amazing thing is that we were apparently there in the beginning with Him as well.

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love.” Ephesians 1:4

Even before creation we were there in Christ. Just as we were in Adam when he sinned and so sin passed onto us all. By faith we were in Christ when He was crucified and His righteousness was passed onto all those who believe. This verses says that we were there in Christ at the beginning, before the world began. Unfortunately I can’t remember a thing and just have to believe it all by faith. The bible says that “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.” I may not have seen it but I believe it for its impossible to please God without faith.

This most likely explains why Spirit filled Christians are so creative, for creating things is part of our spiritual DNA. I don’t know about you but I have a longing to see the miraculous for its in my spiritual DNA and I cant help myself.

Colossians 1:27 “Christ in us the hope of glory.”

In the Passion Bible it says, “Living within us is the Christ who floods us with and expectation of glory.” We cant help ourselves, from expecting the supernatural.

I have often watched a program on TV called ‘Lost and Found’ with David Lomas. Adopted children would come to David and ask him to find their true mother or father whom they have never met. There was a longing within them to find their roots. It’s amazing how so often when they have been tracked down, how the original parents have the same hobbies or preferences the child does even though they never met. Like a love of cars, horse riding, photography or art, yet the parents had no influence over their lives. It was in their DNA.

Something that God has put in our spiritual DNA that I want to understand is that we have within us the Faith of God. Mark 11:22-24 says that we can speak to mountains and cast them into the sea. This is like the creative power that Jesus had in the beginning. We too are invited to experience this type of ministry.

Galatians 2:20 says that Christ is living in us and we are empowered by the faith of the Son of God.

“My old identity has been co-crucified with Christ and no longer lives. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me— we live in union as one ! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, dispensing his life into mine.” Galatians 2:20

We need to understand that we too have this same kind of faith living within us. Its the same kind of faith that Christ had in the beginning. Christ spoke the worlds into being using faith filled words and we are encouraged to be like Him and learn to speak creative words as well.

This is why its so important to watch what we say, for Proverbs 18:21 says that life and death are in the power of our tongues. We may not be able to create a planet but I know that we can change our world through faith, for this is that which overcomes the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4.
