Honey from the Rock

“Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” Proverbs 24:13-14

As I mentioned a few weeks ago I have been saturating myself in the word of God by using Spotify and other audio apps while resting. I found a reader who I like that has pleasant light piano music playing in the background and it helps me to ‘see’ THE story, especially in the gospels. This method has opened up a spiritual dimension that I have not known before. Not only am I feeling stronger spiritually but I’ve been seeing some amazing answers to prayer as my faith has grown through listening.

“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

At the moment I’m in a place where the word is my constant delight, it’s my treasure, and something that I love with a passion. I am fortunate in that I am semi-retired and can concentrate more of my attention on the word and walk by faith. I could keep myself busy and find many other things to do, but I’ve seen the importance of getting the word into me and in knowing God. I am seizing the day and not wasting any more time on frivolous things, for His coming is near.

I always remember reading Donald Duck comics as a child, and remember the mega rich Scrooge McDuck. He had a swimming pool that was full of money and he would dive into it every day and revel in his wealth. We have great wealth too and should be reveling in our riches that are far more precious than gold.

God wants us to delight in His word for it’s in scripture that we find Him. As I lie on my bed letting scripture flow over me, I feel like I’m the most blessed person on the planet.

“You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine.” Psalm 4:7 NLT

I exercise my faith and claim all the benefits His word can bring me, especially in the area of healing, for He sends His word and heals me. Psalm 107:20. I speak aloud what the word promises me. It says  in Proverbs that God’s word is life to me and health to all my flesh. Proverbs 4:20-23.

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh”  * Note that we also need to listen to the word as well as read it.

John says that God’s word is ‘Spirit’ and ‘Life’ John 6:62. I claim that my spirit is being strengthened and my life being blessed from hearing the word. It also says that if we meditate on His word day and night we will prosper and have good success Joshua 1:8. God’s word can bring us prosperity.

God has given us His word in abundance, and we have far more of it than we could ever use. King David said that it was more precious to him than gold and silver. It’s far more valuable than we realise, more precious than gold and sweeter than honey.

“The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:9-11

I personally believe that our love for Jesus is in direct relationship to our love for the word of God. You can measure how great your love for God is, by how much you love His word. It’s not a coincidence that Jesus is called the word in John chapter one.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” John 1:1-4

The bible is a manifestation of Christ and as we delight in His word it releases faith and the desires of our hearts can be granted. If we delight ourselves in the Lord (The word) then He will give us the desires of our heart. Psalm 37:4

When our word level is low we become spiritually weak and sick. One of the signs that a person is sick is that they go off their food, and we Christians can be like that too in our attitude to the word. We can try to medicate ourselves on the world but it only takes us further away from God. I always remember God telling me that the reason I was weak as a Christian was that I was suffering from ‘spiritual anorexia.’ I was starving myself of the word and living on a diet of movies instead of on His word.

For a Christian to live the abundant life we need the word of God to be our constant diet. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4

“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Unfortunately we have so many other avenues that we pursue for satisfaction in these Last Days, that feeding upon the word takes a low priority.

“We have a form of godliness and deny the power.” 2 Timothy 3:5

It’s now summer here in New Zealand and the skies are full of Monarch butterflies. This reminds me of God’s plan for us. Just as the Monarch Caterpillar’s future is to be a Butterfly, so is our future to be that of a new creature in Christ. These Monarch Caterpillar’s diet is that of the leaves of the swan plant, but when they become butterflies their diet is to drink the nectar (honey) of flowers, this now sustains them. Unfortunately, for many Christians we have become new creatures like the Monarch Butterfly but we are still eating caterpillar food and wonder why we can’t fly as we should. The world is killing us.

“Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” Proverbs 24:13-14

This verse shows us that when we get ourselves into the place where God’s word is our treasure, our honey, then our future will be bright. When the word becomes sweet to our taste and the source of wisdom, our future will change and our hopes will be realised.

“He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock, and with oil from the flinty crag.” Deut 32:13

God wants us to ride on the high places in life, having a constant flow of honey. We may be ‘between a rock and a hard place’ but no matter how hard a situation we find ourselves in there is honey and oil to be found. We need to call forth His Honey as Moses called forth the water out of the rock in the wilderness.

We are now in the 3rd Day when God says that we can ‘know’ Him like no other generation before us. Hosea 6:1-3. (Look at the message link provided in the pdf below). I say this because there has never been a generation with so many resources available to them to know God. With an abundance of bibles and translations and copious amounts of the word available through apps like Spotify and YouTube we can have a continual feast on the Honey of God’s word.

Sadly so many Christians choose to ignore God’s provision and drink from the broken cisterns of the world and become dehydrated.

“My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water” Jeremiah 2:11-19.

Let us ‘seize the day’ and make the most of all the ways that God has provided for us to be filled with His word. In so doing He assures us that we will have a blessed future and our hope will not be cut off.
