In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth He made the night and said that it was good. Unfortunately after ‘The Fall’ the Devil infiltrated the system and gave the night a bad name. He infiltrated darkness and made it something to be feared, for it was at night that he did most of his dirty work.
As a whole people are more fearful at night. Have you noticed how we are more vulnerable to negative thoughts in the night? Most crimes take place under the cloak of darkness.
As God’s Children, we have Christ to protect us and He has promised that He will bless the night to us and reverse the Devil's work. In fact He says He can and will bless us in the night.
“And I will give thee the treasures of darkness,” Isaiah 45:3
“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.” Psalm 91:5-6
The bible speaks of many great blessings that came on God’s Children at night. Look at Jacob who wrestled with an Angel for instance.
“And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day…….And he blessed him there.” Genesis 32:24
Jacob wrestled there with an Angel in the night, and was blessed at the breaking of the day. After this experience in the night God changed Jacob from a “Cheater” into a "Prince with God".
In fact I have found that some of the greatest times that I have ever had with God are while waiting on Him at night.
Other examples are of Samuel being called by God in the night to be a Prophet. Look at how God came to King Solomon in a dream and gave him wisdom greater than anyone else of the planet. It was at night that an Angel spoke to Joseph the father of Jesus in a dream. Not to mention the Angel Gabriel coming to Mary his wife and telling her of the birth of Jesus. When Paul and Silas praised God at midnight they were delivered from their prison chains.
It was at midnight that the Children of Israel were delivered from the cruel Egyptians after 400 years. 3 million Israelites walked out of Egypt laden down with silver and gold in the night.
“And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land.” Exodus 12:29
As I mentioned in my previous message on the ‘7th Time,’ David the Psalmist was blessed often in his nightly prayers. David used to get up every night and wait on his God and receive blessings from Him.
“I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.” Psalm 16:7
It was in the watches of the night that he used to think about God and His word. It was then that he was given wisdom from God.
“Mine eyes prevent the [night] watches, which I might meditate in thy word.” Psalm 119:148
“At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgements.” Psalm 119:62
In these days of the electric light bulb and television, we are inclined to stay up late every night and have no time for waiting on God anymore.
In the New English version of Psalm 16:7 it says that wisdom came to David in the watches of the night. It was then that God gave revelation to his soul, and He can do the same for us today, for He is no respecter of persons.
In the natural, night is also the time for dew to fall on the earth. If you were to sleep outside in the night you would get covered in dew.
It comes gradually over a period of time, but before you know it you are wet. I believe that at night God has a supernatural dew called the "anointing" that will come upon you quietly as you wait on God. In the Song of Solomon, the Lord says to the Bride (His Church).
“I sleep, but my heart wakes: [it is] the voice of my beloved that knocks, [saying], Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, [and] my locks with the drops of the night.” Song of Songs 5:2
The Bridegroom (Jesus) comes to His beloved in the night and His head is covered with dew (the anointing). I believe that The Lord comes to us at night often, and wakes us up so that He might impart an anointing to us, but we don't understand what He wants or don't want to get up and receive it. The Lord left the woman because of her procrastination, and she missed a blessing and it can happen to us. One of my favourite Psalms is Psalm 110. Look at verse 3.
“Thy people [shall be] willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of your enemies.” Psalm 110:3
There is a day of God's Power coming and I believe that the Church on this day will be powerful and anointed. From this verse I can see that there will be a "Dew" on the Church and it will come from the "Womb" of the morning. This speaks of the beginning or early hours the day. This anointing or dew is a youthful anointing, which speaks of vigour and vitality. I have often found how refreshed one can become after waiting on God at night. Even when you fall asleep while in prayer, the dew still seems to fall on you.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] for brethren to dwell together in unity! [It is] like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, [even] Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; as the dew of Hermon, [and as the dew] that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, [even] life for evermore.” Psalm 133:1-3
Here we also read of the dew, or anointing coming upon Aaron’s head. It is compared to the dew of Mount Hermon which was the source of the Jordan River and was known for its copious amounts of dew.
I really believe that there is an anointing made available for those who will wait on God by faith at night. Even if we say nothing much to God, the dew still silently falls while in His presence. Believe God for it in these days of spiritual dryness. You could be changed like Jacob into a Prince of God, or delivered from bondage like the Children of Israel. Believe that you will receive wisdom in the night like David and Solomon.
A verse I use every night as I walk around is from Isaiah 26.
“With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.” Isaiah 26:9
In the light of the whole earth being affected by this Pandemic, its even more appropriate to seek God in the night. This Pandemic is a judgment on the earth, even though God is not the author of sickness He has allowed it to happen and can work it all for our good.
As I walk around at night I declare that I am desiring the Lord in the night, and seeking Him early with my spirit, knowing that God can cause the inhabitants of the earth to learn God’s ways and receive His gift of righteousness.
I pray for my friends and the Church worldwide, that they will know that they are the righteousness of God in Christ.
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
I believe that it’s very important for the End Time Church (His Bride) to know she is accepted in Christ and be free from all condemnation. To know you are the righteousness of God in Christ is a wonderful revelation that requires much faith. It sets you free to have an amazing relationship with the Lord as you prepare for His coming.
